For the digit \u201c1\u201d, only the b and c segment actuators extend forward while the rest remain retracted; the two extended segments form a clear \u201c1\u201d in space. At the same time, built\u2011in sensors detect the extension and instantly illuminate the LEDs inside those segments, making the digit visible even in the dark.
